ALTERNATIVE BARNSLEY EXHIBITIONS, ARTS & CRAFT FAIRS EVENT LISTINGS: JANUARY – MARCH 2013

JANUARY – MARCH EXHIBITIONS

LAND MARKS: PAINTINGS BY PETER WATSON @ THE COOPER GALLERY
SAT 16th MAR – SAT 18th MAY

watson
Peter Watson trained at Hull and Liverpool Colleges of Art in the 1960s, and was first inspired by the dramatic industrial landscapes of South Yorkshire, particularly the coal industry. He had an early commission from the National Coal Board to record local collieries. Peter’s work is almost photographic in style and so his early works have become an important documentary record of now-demolished structures. His current work reflects the landscape of the Yorkshire Wolds and features almost abstract patterns created in the land by intensive agriculture.
This exhibition will feature works from all his periods and most will be for sale. Prints are also available.

MICK MARSTON: OUTLOOK GLOOMY, WITH BRIGHT INTERVALS @ THE CIVIC
THU 18th JULY – FRI 6th SEPTEMBER

marston
Born in Barnsley, Mick Marston is an award winning artist who makes images to satisfy his own creative urges and attempts to buck the trend of bland commercial illustration.
Mick Marston is an award-winning illustrator with a client list as long as your arm – from Atlantic Records to Vodafone via The Guardian and Penguin Books. This exhibition – entitled Outlook Gloomy, With Bright Intervals – is a series of screen prints diligently crafted by the artist himself, drawing upon fragmented memories, thoughts, half-baked bits of useful and useless information, stories, other people’s pictures, environmental concerns, songs and euphemisms, and also some stuff the client didn’t like.
