Les Young is the creator and present of the Penistone FM’s Wall To Wall Blues radio show, which is now nearing its third year. Wall to Wall Blues has a good local, national and international following who either tune in or download the podcast to hear a wide range of artists; some of which will often play live in the studio or take part in telephone interviews.
2013 sees Wall To Wall Blues selected to take part in this year’s British Blues Awards. Les says ‘I’m indeed honoured to have been asked to join the select few and put forward my nominations for this year’s.’
The first section of nominations to be released and voted on is the Kevin Thorpe Memorial For Original Song. The nominators have each chosen four songs to be voted on by the general public. The winner from each selection then goes forward to the main British Blues Awards. ‘It was a nightmare to choose just four as so many fantastic songs have been released by British blues artists during 2012’ explains Les.
Les finally made his selection and played them on his show last Monday. He will also be playing soundbites of each of the songs on every show in March (public voting ends 31st March I believe). However, they can be listened to anytime on the Wall To Wall Blues web site and listeners are now being invited to cast their own vote (I’m voting for Ledfoot). A link to the official British Blues Awards voting page sits at the bottom of the Wall To Wall website: http://www.walltowallblues.com/index.php/bba
Wall to Wall Blues is on air every Monday at 8pm (UK time) on Penistone 95.7FM. You can also listen online at www.penistonefm.co.uk or by streaming the Wall To Wall podcasts on the site programme website: www.walltowallblues.com
