Take Part in Barnsley’s Annual Mayors Parade
This year’s Barnsley Mayor’s Parade takes place on Saturday 13th July and to coinside with the opening of Experience Barnsley inside the town hall, BMBC and Barnsley Live say “this year’s overiding theme is a celebrating our heritage and we want people to be inspired by Barnsley’s past, present and future to create your unique entries.” Once again the annual flagship town centre event is open to entries from all interested parties, the Mayor’s Parade continues to provide an excellent opportunity to promote and raise awareness of what you do for Barnsley residents.

They go on to say, “Leave no creative stone unturned with the inventiveness of your costumes, props, music etc. We want to see your imagination shine through and enjoy the carnival atmosphere we create each year!”
A number of changes have been made to the format of this year’s Mayor’s Parade, including judging and prizes for best floats:
• The Parade start time is 12noon.
• Vehicles Floats are permitted, but limited in size to vehicles no larger than
that of a bus and driven at a maximum speed of 5mph and subject to the receipt of a relevant
activity risk assessment, provision of valid MOT Certificate for vehicle,
Insurance certificate. On the day of the event the driver will be required to
present his valid licence to the parade marshal for validation.
• Parade entry judging; trophies will be awarded in the following categories – Best Float, Best Walking Group, Mayor’s Award – Outstanding Contribution to the Parade

Parade Schedule
10.30am Entry judging to begin
11.30am Trophy Presentation
11.45am All Parade participants to be in place at the start point, Upper Court House car park.
12.00noon The Parade moves off.
12.01pm – 1.00pm During the Parade. The procession will proceed at a steady pace this must be maintained at all times to ensure all entries are evenly spaced and no large gaps appear along the route
1.00pm (approx) Parade Ends.A variety of stalls will be located around Cheapside, May Day Green and Queen Street through the parade.
