MUSIC NEWS: MADFEST FOLK FESTIVAL COMES TO ELSECAR

MADFEST

We have already had Live in Barnsley, Coalfields Festival and a number of smaller mini-festivals this summer, but festival season isn’t over yet. Next week, Elsecar Heritage Centre becomes the home of Madfest, fast becoming one of the best folk and roots festivals in South Yorkshire.

Taking place over Friday 2nd, Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August, the festival incorporates two full days of free live music, street theatre, arts, crafts and family friendly entertainment, and a series of three ticketed evening concerts taking place at Building 21 featuring the finest of national and international contemporary folk music, including Barnsley’s very own award winning folk dup Katriona Gilmore & Jamie Roberts.

The Main Stage at Powerhouse Square will have free performances from leading folk, roots, blues and acoustic artists, along with spots from leading local morris teams. The Second Stage on Saturday will be the home to the UpLift and Creative Recovery will feature free arts, crafts, music and poetry. On Sunday though, it will play host to the Open Mic Stage presented by Scott Doonicn.

On both the Village Room and Poetry & Theatre Tent you will see some of the finiest regional and national theatre and circus performers, along with comedians and poets.
Around the site you will also find fine a real ale, stalls and fine fresh food.
