New Barnsley band Servers, have recently signed a deal with Undergroove Records (My Ruin, Jonny Truant, Minus the Bear) and are on the cusp of launching their debut single, followed closely by an album next spring. The band conists of Lee Storrer (vocals/guitars), Lee Wilde (bass) and Ant Nettleship (drums). I had the pleasure of being able to listen to early versions of a couple of tracks this summer and shit, they’re big. Heavy and very epic – expect elements of Killing Joke, AC/DC, Sabbath, ISIS, along with added orchestration by local composer Chris Haigh. Expect to hear something that will blow you away. If the single is anything to go by, then Servers is definitely something new to behold.
The single have the ‘Half Evil Edit’ of Universes & Supernovas (The Ride) and the full six minute plus versions, backed by a new non-album b-side. Check out the single’s video, filmed by Barnsley’s very own internationally renowned rock photographer Mark Latham.
I asked Lee what we can expect from Servers. He said, “we tried to make every song on ‘Leave With Us’ unignorable – totally kicking against the shouting shit that every kid and their dog are doing. We’re sensing its time for change in a stale Cancer Bats copy-cat ridden music industry. It’s an album that will sink or swim … The water wings are in the bin!”
Many music fans in Barnsley will be well aware of Lee Storrer and the bands that he has been part of. He has been an intergeral part of the local music scene for a number of years. In the 80s he played in local acts such as Coda T Coda, and in the 90s in fronted the amazing Sunlounger – gracing the pages of Kerrang!, Metal Hammer, recording sessions for Radio One and releasing a critically acclaimed debut album. More recently he fronted G.U. Medicine; more Radio One sessions, three albums, loads of national press, appearances at major music festivals and countless gigs with the likes of The Wildhearts, Nick Oliveri and his Mondo Generator, My Ruin, and Skid Row to name but a few.
New single Universes and Supernovas (The Ride) will be released via Undergroove Records on Monday 16th December, and will be available via itunes. The album Leave With Us will be released in February.
