A new arts festival is to take place in Hoylandswaine this summer, between 19th – 27th July 2014.
In 2011 Hoylandswaine Arts Group were successful in securing £100,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the restoration of a wall painting, ‘The Ascendancy of Christ’ by John Roddam Spencer Stanhope, a local pre-Raphaelite artist from the Stanhope family of Canon Hall in Cawthorne. The festival is a unique way to celebrate the uccessful restoration of the painting. A village-wide committee was put together to plan and organise the event.
The festival will be the first of its kind for the village and will feature variety of music concerts, art exhibition, garden party, barbecue, cream teas, scarecrow trail, history lectures, and of course the painting itself. On top of this, the festival will be preceeded by a Victorian Fayre on the 28th June and will involve many village organisations including the school, sports and social club, church, WI, running club, cricket club, arts group and others.
