After taking a short break from organising gigs over June and July, Alternative Barnsley is back with another stellar line-up at the end of August. Teaming up with Of National Importance Records, we are holding the launch event for The Exhibition’s new EP, ‘Carry To The End’.
The Exhibition will play Barnsley Rock n Blues (formerly, yet still loving called The Polish Club) on Friday 29th August. Support comes from RAMA ZU, an experimental noise-outfit made up up former members of stoner rock merchants Ivory Tusks. Also on the line-up are BRUJA, a young band with tonnes of promise whose blackened post-grunge sound has been pricking up ears around town for the last six months.
Formed in the spring of 2008, and consisting of members Joel Burrows (Guitar), Pete Dand (Vocals/Guitar), Andrew Murray (Bass) and Lee Padget (Drums), their initial demo was recorded with Alan Smyth (Arctic Monkeys, The Long Blondes). Since then, the band have formed a long standing relationship with producer Dave Sanderson (65 Days Of Static, Reverend & The Makers) which started with their 2009’s self-titled EP. Since then they have released the acclaimed singles The Crown, Roma and the EP, ‘Man Proposes, God Disposes’.
The four tracks that make up their latest EP were once again recorded with Dave Sanderson of 2fly Studios and were also mastered by Tom Woodhead (formerly of ¡Forward, Russia! fame) at Hippocratic Mastering (The Cribs, Hookworms, Post War Glamour Girls). Hear Artery, a sample from the EP, below. If you’re into Joy Division, iliketrains, Radiohead, The Dears, Hope of the States, Interpol, Editors, Television, Echo & the Bunnymen, then you’re going to love The Exhibition.
You can pre-order Carry To The End now via Of national Importance Records, along with various bumdles including CDs/vinly packages and guestlist entry to the gig. https://ofnationalimportancerecords.bandcamp.com/album/carry-to-the-end

*** Alternative Barnsley concerts aim to provide the discerning listener with line-up featuring some of the finest, up-and-coming, underground, alternative music acts in Barnsley. We like to use The Polish Club, as in our eyes (and lug’oyles) that have the finest sound in town, along with a grand enough stage and lighting to befit the bands that grace their stage. The Polish Club have live music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and showcase the best of rock, metal, indie, punk, blues and tribute acts from around the immediate locale and indeed the UK. ***
