Earlier this month, the inaugural Barnsley Music Awards were launched and since then, nearly 2,000 local music fans have cast their votes. Awards organiser Dave Pearsall explained,’“we had 70 bands from Barnsley play at this years LIVE in Barnsley festival so we were expecting a lot of people to vote for their favourites, but we have been overwhelmed at the number of people who have taken the time to vote online. It’s also great to see a few surprises in there too.’
The awards ceremony will be held at The Walkabout on Friday 5th December. Standing tickets are now available for £1 over the bar at Walkabout. There will also be a limited number of tickets for the seating area stage front where nominees will be treated to a meal and waitress drinks service.
You can now buy seated tickets from this link: http://www.liveinbarnsley.co.uk/bmatickets.asp
Compere for the evening will be local musician, poet, comedian, Mark Jackson. Awards presenters will include LIVE in Barnsley patron, Feargal Sharkey, and local MP, Michael Dugher.
Fellow organiser, Steve Clifford, told us, ‘The evening will begin with DJ Ryan Oxley from Penistone FM’s Indie Show, playing tracks by nominees. On the night there will be special one-off performances between awards by Jake Sharpe, Harriet Rose Grant, Del Scott Miller and the first live appearance by Liam Stewart, guitarist with The Black Lamps. After the awards there will be two short sets from nominees The Velcro Teddy Bears and Subject.’
Voting will officially close on November 7th. This will allow time to notify the top 4 nominees in each category and for the panel to meet and discuss the recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Local Music category.
You can still vote online via Survey Monkey, people are limited to one vote per unique IP address. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BMAAwards. You can also vote via any of the LIVE in Barnsley social media sites.
