For those of you with an interest in all things science, these two local groups may interest you….

Skeptics
SKEPTICS IN THE PUB is an informal social event designed to promote fellowship and social networking among skeptics, critical-thinkers, and other like-minded individuals.
The usual format of meetings includes an invited speaker who gives a talk on a specific topic, followed by a question-and-answer session. Other meet-ups are informal socials, with no fixed agenda. The groups usually meet once a month at a public venue, most often a local pub (currently the cellar bar of Old No7). There are now more than 100 different “SitP” groups running around the world.”

Barnsley SitP hold monthly meetings on the first Thursday of the month. We alternate between live speakers and social nights. The next scheduled speaker is Selina Wray, a Barnsley born neuroscientist working in the NIHR Dementia BRU at UCL Institute of Neurology, using stem cells to understand Alzheimer’s Disease & Frontotemporal Dementia. She was recently named Pioneering Researcher of the year at Red Magazine’s annual Woman of the Year Awards.
