Over the last three weeks, we have been sharing news of the acts being announced for next year’s Underneath the Stars Ferstival. Although not going under the banner of a ‘folk festival’, it is heavy on the folk side, but also incorprating jazz, blues, singer songwriter and indie rock n roll. This last week’s set of announcements casts the net even further with prog rock and lashings of boogie woogie, and some of our biggest names yet.
These include MARTIN SIMPSON, one of the best acoustic, finger-style guitarists in the world and a multi-award winning artist, including 6 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Martin has worked with Jackson Browne, David Lindley, Steve Miller, Richard Hawley, June Tabor, Martin Taylor and more!
Maybe maybe better known as the drummer of over 20 years in one of the biggest alternative rock groups in the world, Radiohead; but since 2010, PHILIP SELWAY has released two critically lauded solo albums.
The talented Mr BOB FOX, is currently touring as “The Songman” in the sensational stage production of War Horse. However, he has played an integral and influential part in the UK club circuit for many years. THE DO-RITE TRIO is fronted by the renowned burlesque singer Em Brulee. This fantastic trio plays foot-stompin jazz and blues.
LUKE DANIELS is a critically acclaimed British folk singer/songwriter and renowned multi-instrumentalist. He has toured the world with a variety of acts and with his own band. Dublin born, East Yorkshire based folk musician EDWINA HAYES, plays Americana like no other. However, she has also opened shows for the likes of Jools Holland, Van Morrison, Loudon Wainwright III, Barbara Dickson, Roy Harper, KT TunstallChris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook and many, many more.
And finally, Holland’s VERA VAN HEERINGEN plays old-time bluesgrass and has developed a reputation as a strong back-up player on guitar, bass and fiddle in several Cajun and ol…d-time bands. She is well known for her big guitar sound and has worked on the acoustic music scene in Europe for the last decade. Vera’s debut album ‘Standing Tall’ is receiving rave reviews.
