This summer I do something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and that it start a small independent bandcamp label. I’ve got off my arse to do it following a conversation with local musician Del Scott Miller, after he asked me advise about releasing an album. I suggested I’d like to help him do, possbily through my own label.
And although I am still playing around with potential names for the record label, I will so release Del Scott Miller’s debut solo album on it.
If you don’t know Del, his previous credits include a decade as the lead song-writer, guitarist and co-vocalist for the alternative-indie pop band Mynas and also as the go-to guitarist for a number of singers including Lee England and Laura Conway.
This first album of his will compile his first solo three EPs, released between March 2014 and May 2015. Released under the moniker Del Scott Miller & The Last Million Men, it will feature a line-up of his regular musical accomplices Steve Booth (Mynas, Gaia) and Tommy Fuller (Soulprint) and contributions from Katie Laycock and April Lodge (Mynas, Parson’s Lot).
Del’s solo music takes inspiration from the folk tradition and features elements of blues, jazz and especially fingerstyle guitar playing. His music references Geoff Farina (Karate, Glorytellers), Nick Drake, John Martyn, Martin Carthy, Richard Thompson, Paul Simon, Dave Brubeck, Jeff Buckley, Ennio Morricone, Jack Kerouac and Charles Bukowski.
In my mind, he is one of the finest guitarists and lyricists to grace the locality and that is why I wanted to release the album myself. The First Three EPs will consist of 16 tracks and will be available as both download and for a limited time only, on signed CD. We will launch pre-orders over the coming weeks.
