Alternative Barnsley is a hyper local arts blog, which was launched by Jason White in November 2011. It was and still is, Barnsley’s only Arts magazine website, dedicated to promoting the talents of local musicians, artist, designers, their events and the venues that facilitate them.
Our facebook page acts as an up to date local live arts and music event guide, with links to local artists, performers and venues. The website features articles, reviews, interviews and much more.
AlternativeBarnsley.com and it’s facebook page is used actively by artists, fans of the arts both young and old, local arts organisations and council run museums and galleries. We have also partnered with a number of projects since we started, included Experience Barnsley – Sounds Archive, Horizon Radio, Newham Barnsley Partnership and London 2012 and Creative Recovery, of which I am a trustee.
In 2010, we were ‘Commended’ Arts and Culture Blog at the Blog North Awards 2012, and in 2014, won the award for Outstanding Contribution To Local Music at the first ever Barnsley Music Awards.
