LIVE IN BARNSLEY TEAM LAUNCH NEW ‘BARNSLEY MUSIC AWARDS’

BMA LOGO.fw Crazyflowerpot Promotions, the organisers of the annual LIVE in Barnsley urban music festival, are launching yet another annual music event to add to the town’s local music calendar. One of the organisers, Dave Pearsall, says, ‘We wanted to create The Barnsley Music Awards and ask local music fans to vote for their favourite local bands, songs, videos etc. We have confirmed a venue to hold the awards ceremony, The Walkabout, with a planned awards presentation evening on Friday 5th December. We will be playing tracks by local bands and showing their music videos. We want to make it a celebration of local music and to throw one big party to thank the many and varied people who work so hard to support local music. We will shortly be confirming details on how to get tickets’.

Voting for the awards will be online via Survey Monkey and people are limited to one vote per unique IP address. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BMAAwards Voting will open on October 3 and close November 28. You can vote via Surveymonkey or any the LIVE in Barnsley social media sites and also those of the awards sponsors.

Fellow organiser, Steve Clifford, told us, ‘the great thing about this poll is that we don’t shortlist our favourite bands and ask you to vote on them, the vote is completely open, and you can add your favourite band to the list as you vote.’

Dave continues, ‘this is something for all ages and all musical tastes. We want to ensure that all musical genres are included, rock, pop, dance, punk, electronic, acoustic, folk and indie. The only category that won’t be open to a public vote will be for the outstanding contribution to local music category. The public will be able to nominate who they feel is deserving and we will put together a diverse panel of people to discuss a shortlist of individuals or organisations they think should be presented with the award. This could be a musician or someone who works behind the scenes and doesn’t normally get the spotlight. We have already confirmed the following panel members, Jason White of Alternative Barnsley, Andrew Sugden from Yorkshire Gig Guide, Kieran Bestall – DJ on WAB Radio, Pete Thompson – Producer at Flatwave Studios, Brett Jackson – Producer at Studio 24 and Ryan Oxley – DJ on Penistone FM and we will be inviting more people from the Barnsley music scene involved over the coming weeks.”

The award categories are as follows:
1. Favourite Band
2. Favourite Solo Artist
3. Favourite Live Venue
4. Favourite Live Act
5. Favourite Single/EP
6. Favourite Album
7. Favourite Video
8. Favourite Event
9. Outstanding Contribution to Local Music

A local music awards is something I’ve wanted to organise for a while now but just never had the time, so I’m grateful that this has been put together. I also appreciate being asked to be on the panel too.
Over the next two months, I’ll be discussing a different catagory each week. In the mean time, get voting, and don’t forget to add anybody you think deserves a nomination that isn’t listed. I have already done just that for the Best Live Act award.
