I am delighted to be able to announce that Alternative Barnsley readers are being offered a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes at Barnsley’s first museum about the town’s history. Hidden Treasures is a national project that offers the chance to go back-stage at some of the nation’s most exciting museums – seeing their hidden treasures up close, meeting the expert curators and visiting parts of the building not usually open to the public… AND ALL FOR FREE!
Taking place on Monday 23rd August at 2pm, Experience Barnsley Museum and Discovery Center will offer a small number of people the chance to discover more about Barnsley’s Roman coin hoards, their links to Egypt and get the chance to handle some Roman coins with a Barnsley born international expert of Egyptology, Professor Joann Fletcher. Places are extremely limited and are available on a first come first served basis.
